About the artist
Calee Dunlap was born and raised in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She was lucky enough to gain a deep appreciation of the great outdoors from an early age. The mountainous terrain of the Tetons demand a humble strength and teach a deep respect of Mother Nature. Though she didn’t practice art growing up, developing that mindset was the beginning of her creative path. It wasn’t until she dropped out of college to travel that she began to see the world through an artistic lense. First came film photography, then charcoal drawing, then painting. Calee’s first roll of film felt less like images and more like a story told through vibrant colors and interesting light. Thus began her path to seeing art as so much more than just imagery.
After she was accepted to the art program at the University of Wyoming she quickly fell in love with painting. She graduated with a BFA in Visual Arts and is now a full time, traveling painter. You can most likely find her by the ocean or in the mountains at a local makers market or live painting at a special event.
Calee’s work intends to inspire connectivity between people and places; invoking a feeling above a representation of the land. Her goal is to communicate the importance of protecting and caring for public spaces through a style that feels peaceful and inviting. She works intuitively, rarely with any plan in mind other than the area she is painting.
